Eles foram avisados: atrasos não seriam tolerados. E o show deveria terminar até as 23h30 (pontualidade britânica), de acordo com Melvin Benn, organizador do evento.
O headliner da noite? Axl Rose’s band – ou Guns N’ Roses. Aquele mesmo que anda fazendo O MUNDO TODO esperar em TODOS os shows – aliás, não anda fazendo, SEMPRE foi assim – mais recentemente, tivemos o desprazer desta experiência nos shows brasileiros que o Minuto HM cobriu em São Paulo e em Brasília.
A banda subiu ao palco de um dos festivais mais importantes do mundo, o Reading Festival, com 1 hora de atraso (incrível dizer isso, mas foi até pouco quando lembro daquele domingo em janeiro de 2001, no Rock In Rio 3).
A banda foi tocando seu tradicional set até quase perto da meia-noite, quando tocaram o clássico Nightrain e sairam do palco… quando tentaram voltar para o encore, o som já estava cortado… Axl Rose insistiu e, apenas ouvindo-se o som da bateria, executaram uma “versão acústica” de Paradise City, com Axl em um… megafone e praticamente 90.000 vozes cantando… logo após, sairam do palco.
DJ Ashba e Richard Fortus, ambos pelo Twitter, já começaram a falar, claro…

Quem perdeu de verdade com tudo isso? Sempre o elo mais fraco de toda a cadeia, ou seja, NÓS, fãs… a banda, claro, achou que foi uma “falta de respeito com ela e com os fãs”. Provavelmente não conhecem a expressão “o combinado não sai caro”…
CARO ficou para o público…
Agora, outro ponto de vista: entendo que não é novidade alguma para a organização e para aos próprios fãs da banda sobre a total não-pontualidade de Axl Rose – e que ele não respeitaria qualquer acordo, pois não é da sua, digamos, “personalidade”.
Portanto, quem se sujeita a ter a banda em seu festival ou quem se sujeita a assistir um show do Axl e CIA. deve estar preparado para coisas do tipo… até para não criar falas expectativas.
Minha opinião de tudo isso em uma palavra? Patético.

Complicado… Entendo os produtores, que tem(?) um “toque de recolher” a cumprir (isso ainda existe em 2010 na Inglaterra?). Quem conhece o mínimo de GN’R sabe que o Axl só sobe no palco qdo se sente preparado para dar o melhor de si no show. Frescura? Não sei… Ser artista é diferente de ser bancário. Fazer arte é diferente de fechar um relatório, tem haver com clima, inspiração, etc. Eu prefiro agüentar um atraso e ter um puta show a ver a banda entrar no palco, não rolar clima e mandar um show ” profissional”.
No rock n roll, sempre vou valorizar a imprevisibilidade. Com os Stones foi assim, com Morrison foi assim, com Cobain tb e com Axl é isso aí. Eu estou do lado de todos eles, pois o rock é isso aí. Entendo o promotor do show, mas se ele quer previsibilidade, que vá fazer festivais de ópera em Viena.

Uma coisa é muito clara neste episódio: Sem dúvida, houve falta de respeito com o público, que é quem compra os ingressos e álbuns da banda e viabiliza festivais como este.
Como o Guns já havia sido avisado sobre a tal pontualidade, agora deixando claro de que trata-se da minha opinião, Axl e companhia faltaram com respeito ao publico.
Como também faltou com o respeito ao mesmo público a organização do festival, pois como tratava-se da última música, um pouco de bom senso e não haveria este falatório todo.
Fica claro então que houve uma desnecessária queda de braço entre dois “bicudos” com prejuízo único e exclusivo do público pagante.
Que eles façam a sua parte : Não compareçam mais ao evento ou outros efetuados pela mesma organização ou shows do Guns .
Comparecer a qualquer um do dois é estar sujeito à nova falta de respeito, cabe à cada um decidir o que fazer …e se arriscar a uma nova cena lamentável como essa.

Olha galera, concordo com o B-side em maneira geral. Assistir a um show do GNR ultimamente parece arriscado. Se considerarmos a frequencia de ataques a la Tim Maia, que para mim é apenas uma tentativa de chamar atenção para uma banda que parece precisar de escândalos para sobreviver. Então é isso: falta música e sobram vaidades. Rock n Roll para mim é puramente música e o espetáculo gira em torno disso e não admito falta de respeito com o público. Uma vez avisados das condições para tocar no tal do festival, ou tocam direito e respeitam o publico ou é isso que aconteceu – e parafraseando o Eduardo e o Bside: lamentável

O Melvin Benn disse que pra ele tá tudo certo e que convidaria a banda novamente.

De novo, continuo na linha de que rock é isso aí mesmo. O dia que for “bonzinho”, perde a graça. No final dos anos 60, já era assim com Jim Morrison. As pessoas iam ao show buscar essa imprevisibilidade dele. Como o Bside disse, O MUNDO sabe que shows do GN’R atrasam. Sendo assim, ou as produtoras não o contratam, ou as pessoas não devem comparecer. Mas parece que no final das contas, nada disso vai acontecer.
Se vc não consegue conviver com o atraso, não deve ir.

Guns N’ Roses criticise organisers at Leeds Festival

Guns N’ Roses had their set cut short at Reading after going on stage late Guns N’ Roses lead singer Axl Rose claimed his “war” with Reading and Leeds’ bosses “wasn’t over yet” as they headlined the final night of this year’s festival.
The singer directed a string of expletives at organisers as his group ran over their allotted performance for the second time.
They came on stage 30 minutes late after being an hour late at Reading.
They played half an hour over their time before being told to stop.
Afterwards festival boss Melvin said he would book the band again but “wasn’t sure they’d play for me”.

Up until the final half an hour Guns N Roses’ set had been largely straightforward with a show which included songs like Welcome To The Jungle, Sweet Child o’ Mine and November Rain.
They were due to finish at 2300 [BST] but continued to play. At 2320 they left the stage and returned for a one song encore of Paradise City and then began criticising organisers.

Speaking to Newsbeat after the band came off stage festival boss Melvin Benn said: “You have to put on a show and every band is focussed on only their aspect of what a festival is – that a band comes off unhappy is something I’ll have to live with.”
He described the booking of the band for the bank holiday weekender as a “good decision for the festival” adding that it had “paid great dividends”.
The scenes followed their appearance at Reading festival on Friday where the band had their set cut short by organisers after breaking a newly-extended curfew.
They protested by continuing to play without amplification with Axl Rose singing along through a megaphone.
In between their performances Axl Rose had demanded the bosses of Reading and Leeds festival say sorry to fans at Reading for cutting their set short.
Speaking on Tweeter he said: “At the very least the fans deserve an apology from those responsible for the nonsense.”
Meanwhile, touring guitarist with the band DJ Ashba described organisers as “cocky” and “money grabbing”.
It’s the latest in a prolonged drama involving Guns N’ Roses and the festival.
In the run-up to this year’s event organisers said they would have to pull the plug on the band’s set if they ran over their schedule.
That’s after Guns N’ Roses took to the stage late at Leeds festival 2002.
Artist backlash
However, many artists were critical of Guns N’ Roses’ actions over the weekend.
Lostprophets’ guitarist Mike Lewis said: “It was so predictable that he was going to be late that nobody bothered questioning why. It’s so predictable, it’s boring.

Marina and The Diamonds’ Marina Diamandis said: “I just think it’s juvenile. It’s really selfish to keep people waiting.
“Actually they did it because they [the organisers] said if you’re an hour late you won’t get paid so they were 58 minutes late in Reading.”
“It’s like, ‘Grow up’. You’re not king of the world.”
Elsewhere, the final day of this year’s Leeds festival saw performances from Queens Of The Stone Age, LCD Soundsystem and Mumford And Sons who drew a huge crowd at the NME/Radio 1 stage.
Reading festival was brought to a close with shows from Blink-182, Paramore and Klaxons.
Radio 1 will have highlights from this year’s Reading festival from 7pm tonight (30 August).

Ah, brincadeira, cada uma… é por essas e outras que eu não tenho vontade de ir num show do Guns… Os fãs que me desculpem mas ele “exagera”, é de tirar a paciência de qualquer um… acho que o público vem em primeiro lugar, afinal, são eles que pagam as contas do Axl…
Quem sabe agora ele se toca e começa a “cumprir o combinado”.
